PVC coated swing chain is a galvanised welded chain with a moulded PVC jacket, supplied in 5 mm and 6 mm link sizes. The coating covers the full length of the chain, so the chain does not mark hands, seats or painted frames, and it is suitable for outdoor use. Each length is fitted with a galvanised shackle at one end so it can be attached to a swing seat or a beam hanger.
Where it is used
Swing chains are used to hang garden swings, porch swings, hammocks and play equipment, and to suspend shade sails and light loads under pergolas. The PVC jacket is the reason this chain is chosen over bare chain in these positions: it is comfortable to grip, it does not rust-stain fabric or timber, and it looks finished on a domestic frame.
5 mm or 6 mm
The two sizes cover most domestic swing and hammock work. 5 mm is the lighter option and is normally enough for a single seat or a hammock. 6 mm is chosen where the span is longer, where the chain is used on a public or commercial play installation, or where the buyer wants a heavier visual weight. If you tell us the seat width, the hanging height and what the chain will carry, we will confirm which of the two suits the job.
End fittings and lengths
Our standard assembly has a galvanised D shackle at one end and a welded ring or eye at the other, which covers the usual swing hanger and seat bar arrangement. Lengths are cut to order, and the coating colour can be matched to a frame or a brand. Tell us the fitting you need at each end and we will quote to that drawing rather than to a stock length.
Ordering notes
Please state the chain size, the finished length, the fitting required at each end and the quantity. If the chain is for a play installation that has to meet a specific safety standard, tell us which standard applies in your market and we will confirm what we can supply against it. Load figures for a finished assembly depend on the chain, the fittings and the way the assembly is fixed, so we confirm them for the actual configuration rather than quoting a single number.
