What is the most important factor of G80 lifting chain ?

G80 lifting chains have a wide range of applications, covering lifting, construction, marine, logistics, mining, and many other fields. A common requirement across these diverse applications is "safety."
According to the EN818-2 standard, the working load of a G80 chain is one-quarter of its minimum breaking tensile force.
A safety factor of 4:1 is the core of the G80 chain.
All other specifications—breaking tensile force, stiffness, elongation, and fatigue life—are set around this safety baseline.

What to Check Besides the Safety Factor
The 4:1 factor only works if the rest of the system supports it. Check that the grade marking is legible on every link - an unmarked chain should not be used for lifting. Make sure the hooks, shackles and connecting links are rated for grade 80, because a weaker component in the assembly sets the limit for the whole system. And inspect the chain for stretch, cracks and wear before use and periodically in service.

It means the minimum breaking force of the chain is at least four times its rated working load limit. The factor exists to cover the unexpected forces of real lifting - it is not spare capacity to work beyond the WLL.
Should I still inspect a new G80 chain?
Yes. The safety factor assumes the chain is in good condition. Check the grade marking, look for stretch, cracks and wear, and keep the matched fittings in the same condition.
