Why Hot-Dip Galvanizing? Protect Your Chains for Years

Why Hot-Dip Galvanizing? Protect Your Chains for Years
Rust is the enemy of steel chains. Without protection, outdoor chains can corrode within months. That’s why hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) is the preferred finish for chains used in marine, playground, agricultural, and industrial environments.

What Is Hot-Dip Galvanizing?

The chain is dipped into a bath of molten zinc at about 450°C. A metallurgical bond forms, creating a thick, durable zinc‑iron alloy coating. The result is a chain that resists rust – even when scratched.

Key Benefits of HDG Chains

  • Long‑term corrosion protection – Zinc corrodes sacrificially, protecting the steel underneath. HDG chains can last 10–20 years outdoors.
  • Tough & abrasion‑resistant – Much thicker than electro‑plating (50–100+ µm), the coating survives dragging and contact with hard surfaces.
  • Full coverage – Every link surface, including crevices and inner bearing points, is protected.
  • Low maintenance & lower total cost – Higher upfront cost pays off through fewer replacements and less downtime.
